OBJECTIVE 1.1 KEY MILESTONES
• Establish a new Emerging Infectious Diseases Division, which will pursue technologies that can
be readily adapted and used against a range of threats and support efforts under the American
Pandemic Preparedness Plan, if and when the Plan is appropriately funded.
– Achieving FDA approval for two novel, oral antivirals ready for stockpiling.
Support will focus on direct-acting antivirals with substantial reduction in morbidity and mortality
from outbreak-prone virus families
