Tidbit: Up/Down Nasdaq Historical Stats (of interest?)

For the period 1/2001-3/2024, there were 11 UP stretches of 5-7 months duration. There were two DOWN stretches of 5 months duration, being the longest (11/07* to 3/08* and 5/11* to 9/11*).  There were two DOWN stretches of 4 months duration (6/02**-9/02** and 4/06**-7/06**).

11/16-5/17 - 7 mo

7/17-1/18 - 7 mo

4/18-8/18 - 5 mo

9/19-1/20 - 5 mo

11/23-3/24 - 5 mo

In between those UP stretches was a mix of up and down; up 1 and down 1, up 2 and down 1, up 3 and down 3, up 4 and down 2, etc.

So, of what use are these observations? If the old adage, "A rising tide lifts all boats" and the obverse is also true, buying/selling timing decisions could be influenced.

For example, if the Naz has turned in 5 months of sequential advances, one might want to forego buying. If 7 months of advances, one should expect the next month to be a downer, and maybe selling, if in the cards at all, might be well timed.

If the Naz has been down for 4 or 5 months sequentially, it might be time to BTFD. Of course, news about an individual stock will normally trump everything else. FWIW
