This story has been circulating the interwebS this week..its a must read

This gist of this story is this guy inherited $2.5mil.. had early success trading, became undisciplined lost nearly it all trading/gambling @ casinos / etc.

He's down to his last $250k and he's putting it all on the line on a bearish option play for AAPL Earnings tonight.. he thinks he's hedged 8 ways till tuesday.. truth is theres theres about a %65 he loses everything.

I believe his thesis is correct.
But I also believe in manipulation and its very, very hard to beat the big guys at this game.
It can be done, but its not easy. If it was, we all would all be millionaires.

I'm really interested now, in the end of this story and if he is successful will he do, as he says?

it's a great story, i was in his shoes at one point early in my trading days, take your lumps learn from them and get better. this guy has NOT learned from his mistakes.. but it only takes 1 trade to turn it all around.

He has a $90 target on AAPL in the coming weeks (ummm not gonna happen).. but if it did he would make about $12mil on this trade.

He'll do really well AAPL goes sub 110 though

And as far as me in on this trade.. NO WAY.

I only have 2 non trading long common share positions and thats OPKO and AAPL.. i still hold shares in AAPL from 2010 no plans on selling.. just a few option plays here and there on AAPL to have some fun and they're always calls

going to be a wild ride for this guy today.. he LOSES it ALL if AAPL gaps up to $128.... if its flat he has a chance to save some of himself.. love the gamble in him though

I think he will be back either way as well.

I took a big hit in the Tech Wreck of 2000 being on margin and new to equity investing.
I used to be, just in mutual funds but found that very boring and impersonal.
Learned many lesson at the beginning of my investment education, it was a very humbling experience.
After all Investing is not and never has been a, "Game of Perfect!"

Continue to learn but realize smart equity investing, as part of an overall strategy, is still an integral part to achieving financial freedom.

Lets see what AAPL does today.

Well, apple is sitting at an all time high, so unless the earnings are great it is the perfect excuse to take profits. Apple did RUN UP after July earnings, down after Oct, but yah, odds are it drops and the market might help. Still it has to drop, and market keep it down until Feb 27th. It is both a market and apple play. Great to see APPLE beat though. No sympathy for a guy who is handed 2.5m and claims he has no luck. The one with no luck was the uncle, he died. That and he handed his money to a fool.

100% agree.. he made his decisions and it's all on him.. no remorse for what he did with his uncles money..

not about the money anymore though.. 250k left out of 2.5mil..whoopty do.. some of us make trades like that regularly..

that being said to put his story out there and the trade for the whole world to see.. he will help a LOT of people..

i have nothing but respect for him.. what a ballsy way to go out.. betting against AAPL.. yikes.

Great entertainment value.. for the sole purpose its all he has left.. like attending his own funeral

You're right, he will have only himself to blame if it goes south. I found out today, from a Bloomberg interview w/ Phil Frost, that I have an East European on growth hormones that went on an ill-timed exercise kick to blame for my Jan 10 OPK calls expiring worthless. I hope he chokes on his Lean Cuisine pierogis.

He disconnected the live stream at the point where he started throwing up. Bizarre. I don't know if this exercise is a lesson in kahuna's or just another example of someone bent on self-destruction.

Regardless, I feel bad for the guy. It is something I will remember when tempted to push the envelope on one of my positions.

Sorry for the guy? NOT ME, not one bit. I loved his apple short thesis. He ONLY missed one thing, he was WRONG on EVERY point, and FORGOT about SAMSUNG'S blow up phone. SORRY for laughing about this idiot, but he did not respect " THE MONEY " his UNCLE scrimped and saved to hand him. THEREFORE I feel he disrespected his uncle who likely NEVER TURNED a CARD, or played a slot. So I feel his prayer to GOD was answered but his UNCLE was in a better position to ask for a special favor. So YAH, GOD answered with the life lesson the uncle had on that brief note, " life a game, not fun, umm, something like that.

There is a saying "Money goes to where it is respected."

His money just went there...well, at least as far as the after hours market is concerned. We all know that extended hours trading is no guarantee of anything. But if he had trouble keeping food down and sleeping before today, he's certainly embracing the porcelain bus this evening. Or worse.

I totally agree with all your points Burn. That's why I said I feel bad and not sorry. I just don't like to watch people suffer in person or via live stream, even if their fate was had by a foolish turn of their own hand. More than anything I guess it was just a vivid example of failing to follow some of the most basic investing advice: don't act in haste and keep your natural inclinations to be greedy in check.
