As I've mentioned here before, every week or two I amuse myself with Google searches for all things Opko. This morning, I think I discovered something. When I last searched a week or two ago for Scarlet Health, using the "past week" tool in the search parameters, I found the usual. That is, nothing fresh in the search results, other than the usual hit for health care services at Rutgers (Scarlet Knights). So my next step is always expanding the search parameters to "anytime", which produces the dedicated Scarlet Health web site, which I then cruise for anything that, heaven forbid, may be new...or news.
However today was different....
*the search hit (I don't know how to insert a screen shot here) says "Patient Support|BioReference Laboratories"...
*which brings up this web site: www.bioreference.com/physicians/services/patient-support/
* which then yields a pop up that says:
Thank you for visiting ScarletHealth.com. You are being redirected to our parent organization, BioReference Health, LLC at BioReference.com, where you can view a full list of our laboratory services. We will continue to offer mobile specimen collections in specific geographic regions, in which trained phlebotomists can collect a patient’s test specimen from home or work for delivery to our laboratory for testing.
The content on that page is "Patient Care and Support" with several hyperlinked sub-headings, like Patient Pricing, Genetic Counseling, Laboratory Collection Centers. The last of these options is Mobile Specimen Collection, which when clicked yields this:
We are pleased to offer mobile specimen collections in specific regions, in which trained phlebotomists can collect a patient’s test specimen from home or work for delivery to our laboratory for testing.
So, not only is the still photo of the friendly mobile phlebotomist now gone, but the dedicated web site for Scarlet Health has apparently been retired.
The job openings for mobile phlebotomists have been dwindling over time. The lack of any news and/or mention of this unit as a separate entity on conference calls for the past year was very obvious. So it appears that Scarlet Health has died a quiet death, and now functions as merely a patient option as opposed to a marketed service. Perhaps Jon Cohen's advisor contract over the past year since he left was primarily for the wind down of his brainchild. I think his deal ran for one year and, if correct, that engagement has now expired. And so has Scarlet.
When I typed 'mobile phlebotomist' it made me think of 'mobile lobotomist.' I wonder if Opko has any of those among the employee pool. If so, I'd like to book an appointment, to undergo said procedure, and hopefully forget the past ten years.
