Brazil's Bolsonaro Hospitalized After Hiccupping For Over A Week
Hiccups are most often just a nuisance. In this guy's case, he was stabbed in the abdomen, so his case is different in that respect. But there was a young lady in Tampa FL who was not stabbed, but spent many months or even years in intensive care if I recall.
There are lots of stupid "remedies" out there, and they are all stupid.
So here's the deal:
As soon as they start, you need to nip that stuff in the bud. The way to do that is to regain control of your diaphragm. That is the muscle tissue below your lungs and above your guts. That tissue has gone spastic.
The fix is both simple and hard to do if you don't have iron will and patience.
1) blow out all your breath and tighten up your abdominal muscles;
2) hold that for as long as you possibly can to the point of discomfort;
3) now breath in in little sips of breath, a little at a time.
If that doesn't work the first time, you have to do it again.
Normally, one time will work; two times rarely fails.
I related this to a retired RN who was amazed how well it worked. Hiccups are treated lightly, and the proffered remedies are absurd.
The Brazilian pol probably wouldn't benefit from this as there was likely more damage done by the stabbing than just his intestines. But just like the young lady in FL, being hospitalized by hiccups is being past my DIY remedy, so don't let it get there by being dismissive.
