As I understand how RH makes profits, anyone who signs up gets screwed even before they make a purchase. Does no one know you "get what you pay for"? As I understand it, the losses are covered by some securities act....but....that means people have to jump thru hoops and I wonder who pays for the recovery of rh investors' funds when claims are filed? Could it be govt/taxpayers? Just asking since I am pretty ignorant here.

That is the Security Investors Protection Corp (SIPC) which is funded by the member brokers and pays up to $500K if ones broker firm goes BK. But it does not cover losses due to hacking, fraud, etc.
